Retina
The ability to see is something that many take for granted. Vision allows us to enjoy and interact with the world around us. The loss of vision is a devastating and life-changing event. Fortunately, with regular eye examinations, many causes of blindness can be prevented.
The retina forms the inner lining of nerve tissue in the back of the eye where light rays are focused and transmitted to the brain through the optic nerve. The macula is the center of the retina, and is responsible for clear central vision. A healthy retina is essential to maintaining clear vision and overall eye functioning. At Freehold Ophthalmology, we provide the people of Freehold, Toms River, and Brick, New Jersey with comprehensive treatment and preventative services for a wide range of retinal conditions such as macular degeneration, diabetic complications, retinal detachment, and others.
Laser Surgery
Laser retina surgery is performed in our New Jersey office at Freehold Ophthalmology and can be used to treat a wide range of retina conditions. Laser procedures allow extreme precision and can be used to treat diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein occlusions, retinal detachments and more. Depending on the patient’s condition, the laser may be used to seal leaking blood vessels, repair tears, remove newly formed blood vessels or destroy tumors. These procedures are minimally invasive and usually require only anesthetic eye drops to numb the area prior to treatment.
